Ku`ulei Gumapac is originally from
Kaneohe, HI and currently resides in Kent, WA. As a student of
hula, she has studied under Bella Richards and Leialoha
Kamakawiwo`ole. As a member of Na Lei `O Kaholoku, she twice
competed in the prestigious Merrie Monarch Hula Festival in Hilo
in 1982 and 1983. She has also competed twice in the King David
Kalakaua Hula Festival in Kona (1992 and 1995).

Aunty Ku`ulei began
teaching hula in 1992, and in October, 1996, founded Nā Hanu `O
Ku`uleialoha. As Kumu Hula, she emphasizes the traditional
Hawaiian values of lokahi (unity), ha`aha`a
(humility), and kokua (helping others) in her
teachings.
Aunty Ku`ulei's hālau have competed in the Uncle George Na`ope
Northwest Invitational Hula Festival (1998-2000, 2002-2004), the
Mai Kahiki Mai Hula, Oli & Falsetto Competition (2001, 2005,
2007), the Hula `Oni E hula festival (2001) in Honolulu, the Ka
`Ohana Aloha hula festival (2002) and the World Invitational
Hula Festival (2006). |
